    桜広場
    Sakura Square (Sakura Hiroba)
    さくらひろば

    Located in the southern part of Settsu-kyo Park, this is the largest open space in the park. There are around 230 cherry trees planted here. Sakura Hiroba gets very busy in spring with lots of people coming to see the cherry blossoms.

    白滝
    Shirataki waterfall
    しらたき

    A beautiful waterfall surrounded by trees on the north side of Settsu-kyo. While not especially big (the waterfall is 15m high and 5m across), it is a soothing and relaxing place to come for a walk.

    Momiji-dani valley
    もみじだに

    Located on the south side of Settsu-kyo, you get stunning views here in autumn of the leaves spread out across the valley. For those in the know in Osaka/Hokusetsu, here is a favorite place to come for seeing the autumn leaves.

    Gyosha-iwa rock
    ぎょうしゃいわ

    A large rock on the path that climbs up alongside Shirataki waterfall. This strange-looking rock set high up on the hill is one of the highlights of a walk in Settsu-kyo.

    Hana-no-sato Onsen Sansuikan

    This is the only inn in Settsu-kyo. The guestrooms have gorgeous views of Settsu-kyo: some rooms have their own open air bath (rotenburo) and there is also a VIP room with décor made from 350 year old pine. The hoTel serves creative cuisine featuring seasonal ingredients and local produce, and is particularly renowned for its fresh seafood.

    Kitchen Snug is an Italian restaurant in a quiet location in the forest on the south side of Settsu-kyo park. It serves set menus featuring seasonal ingredients. At tea-time you can enjoy coffee and delicious homemade cakes. There is also a wedding plan available, which uses the garden beside the restaurant as a venue.

    みよしのさと バーベキューガーデン

    Enjoy a barbecue with beautiful views of the gorge at Settsu-kyo (fee applies). Highly popular because you don’t need to bring any food or equipment with you: you can rent barbecue equipment and charcoal on-site, and there are packs of food and ingredients available to buy.

    びじんゆ しょうふうえん

    A well-known spa spot with concentrated alkaline sodium bicarbonated hot spring water: these waters soften your skin, soothing your body with gentle cleansing and moisturizing properties. The restaurant “Hana-no-sato” serves classic noodle dishes, rice bowl dishes and desserts. One of the most popular choices here is "Takatsuki Kara-age (fried chiken) Onsen Gozen", which won the National "Kara-age" Golden Award.

    Akuta-gawa river Fishing spot
    あくたがわ せい・けいりゅう さかなつりば

    Enjoy masu (trout) fishing here from autumn to spring, and ayu (sweetfish) in the summer from June onwards. It is highly popular with fishing enthusiasts from Osaka and Kyoto all year round.

    A venue for music concerts featuring instruments such as the piano, or string or wind instruments. You can also while away the time at the on-site café and listen to the accordion performances that are held here regularly.

    Settsu-kyo Youth Camp Site
    せっつきょう せいしょうねん キャンプじょう

    A social education facility set in the natural surroundings of Settsu-kyo, offering outdoor activities and recreation. There are permanent tents, lodges, and log houses on-site, as well as an outdoor stage. Reservations required. Please apply at least one week before your visit to the Regional Education and Youth Division, Takatsuki City Board of Education.

    三好山
    Miyoshi-yama / Akutagawa mountain castle site
    みよしやま あくたがわさんじょう あと

    Akutagawa mountain castle on the banks of the Akuta-gawa river was built in 1516, and is said to be one of the largest structures of its type in the Kansai region. The key features here are the trench, designed to stop the enemy from entering, the earthworks and the ruins of the living quarters. Castle lovers will be especially interested in the stone walls. This type of wall was rare in castles of this era. They still stand even to this day.

    神峯山寺
    Kabusan-ji temple
    かぶさんじ

    Kabusan-ji is a temple of the Tendai sect built in 774. It is one of the sacred Buddhist places known as shichi-kozan ("Seven tall mountains"), along with other mountains such as Mt. Hiei. This is a scenic spot with views that change with the seasons: fresh green leaves in spring, fiery red leaves in autumn, or a blanket of white snow in winter.

    Hatanaka Farm
    はたなか のうえん

    A farm shop selling doboroku and amazake. They are made with Hinohikari rice, a rice imbued with the natural blessings of Hara region. On Sundays, the shop also sells freshly-made soba noodles (Soba noodles available on Sundays only from 11:00AM to 2:00PM, or as long as stocks last).

    高槻市立自然博物館
    Takatsuki City Nature Museum (Aquapia Akutagawa)
    たかつきしりつ しぜんはくぶつかん(あくあぴあ あくたがわ)

    A museum with a whole range of fun things to see and do by the water. There is also a huge waterfall, a small babbling stream, and a floating stage. You can see the fish that live in the Akuta-gawa river and hakusei (stuffed animals) of animals that used to live in the area.

    八阪神社
    Yasaka-jinja shrine
    やさかじんじゃ

    The Orochi festival takes place here every year in early April. It features an "orochi" (monster serpent) made of rice straw woven together. The festival is designated as an "important intangible folk culture asset." It is a long-established community tradition which heralds the onset of spring.

    牛地蔵
    Cattle-jizo (Ushi-jizo)
    うしじぞう

    In ancient times, it is said that products from the northern part of Settsu-kyo, such as specialty goods and agar, used were transported by cattle through Kyosakagoe down to Maejima Beach by the Yodo River. The story goes that the place where Ushi-jizo is now located was a resting place along the journey for the cattle and their carts.

    Jouen-ji temple
    じょうえんじ

    The view at Jozenji is known as one of the eight beautiful scenic views of Hara area, with a stunning outlook across the whole area. During the rice planting season you can see a carpet of blue stretched out before your eyes, turning to gold at harvest time.

    Hagitani Sports Park (Hagitani Sogo Koen)

    Green grass extends over nearly three quarters of the area of this park. In harmony with nature, this is a sports area that makes full use of the blessings of nature in Takatsuki City.
